This coffee from PNG has a unique story. It was produced by Moses Venapo, who initiated a new venture that gives local smallholders in the Eastern Highlands of Kabiufa access to higher market prices as well as to a processing facility.
He established a cherry buying facility and a well mill in his back yard in order to have more control over the purchasing and processing. The coffee is sorted carefully and bought in cherry instead of parchment at a significant premium price. By giving feedback about best practices in picking, he hoped to provide higher-traceability option to farmers.
This new project is still young but we could see an exciting prospect based on what we tasted on the cup. It is vibrant and full flavour. It is undeniably one of the best PNG coffee that our team has ever tasted.
