STORY BEHIND THE CUP
Here are some details about Mushaka Wetmill, a private washing station established in 2017 by Beathe Nyirankunzurwanda. It is located in Rwanda's Rusizi District, West Province, at an elevation of 1,800 meters, near Lake Kivu. Beathe, a former coffee trader, became interested in specialty coffee processing. She began with basic equipment, processing one container of cherries in her first year. By 2018, her dedication led to growth, expanding production to over three containers. Beathe and her son continue to invest in the wetmill, increasing capacity and business growth.
Mushaka Wetmill focuses on fully washed coffee. Cherries are pulped with a Penagos machine, dry fermented, and then dried on raised beds for 15-22 days. Beathe's commitment to continuous improvement, farmer collaboration, and strategic investments have transformed Mushaka into a respected specialty coffee producer.
